Unleash the Power of YOUth at International Youth Day, Ideas Positive Youth Forum on Public Health

Updated: Jun 20, 2022

Open to Filipino youth aged 18-30, #YOUthCan is happening from August 10-12 in Davao City. It features two events: starting with a two-day forum on Public Health, and commencing with the International Youth Day (IYD 2019) celebration.

It’s no secret that more and more youth are rising to build healthier communities through their own ideas, and in their own field of expertise. Science? Check. Politics? Check. Education? Check. Art and self-expression? Check. And a lot more.

Young leaders are slowly pushing their way to create the positive change that we all long to see, both locally and globally: we have champions for mental health, youth who clamor for environmental protection, leaders fighting for the rights of the vulnerable, and many more.

We say: #SanaAll, because #KayaNgKabataan. Imagine a nation with every youth empowered and fired up to create change. This is exactly what “#YOUthCan: Unleashing the Power of the Youth” wants to emphasize.

What is #YOUthCan?

Open to Filipino youth aged 18-30, #YOUthCan is happening from August 10-12 in Davao City. It features two events: starting with a two-day forum on Public Health, and commencing with the International Youth Day (IYD 2019) celebration.

The Ideas Positive Youth Forum on Public Health (IPYFPH 2019) is a public forum that gathers youth leaders nationwide to talk about pressing issues on public health and crafting solutions. It is set to happen in Malayan Colleges Davao on August 10-11. Then, on August 12, thousands of youth will convene at the SMX Convention Center Davao to celebrate the IYD 2019.

We are bringing together various partners from non-government organizations, government, and the private sector to celebrate and support the youth in unleashing their potentials, and showcasing their achievements.

What’s in it for you at #YOUthCan

From education to participation, #YOUthCan has got you covered. Here are some of the activities you’ll be sure to enjoy:

Experience the Davaoeno culture. Prepare your OOTDs and best dance steps -- we’re in it to experience the week-long Kadayawan Festival! To durian lovers, this is your chance to stock up on your fave fruit.

Meet new friends. Thousands of Filipino youth from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao will attend #YOUthCan. Make friends and gain allies through the event, and see how you could collaborate to make lasting change in your communities.

Say ‘yes’ to exciting opportunities. Participants will also be given the time to check out opportunities to participate in youth engagement programs. Hint: it involves traveling locally or internationally *wink, wink*

Draw inspiration from film shows, booths. Be inspired by a special screening of films featuring real stories of Filipino youth who are making a difference in their communities through their ideas. But if you’re the curious type who learns best by going around, health booths are for you. We will set up fun, interactive booths that will showcase different health initiatives and innovative health solutions by the youth.

Exchange thoughts on relevant topics. There will be 45-minute “short courses” to be led by reputable experts. This consists of 16 topics that range from mental health, HIV/AIDs, to environmental protection, and many more. Participants may select four out of 16 from the list of topics offered.

Gain insights during Youth Talks. Think TED Talks, but for the youth. Youth Talks are 10-minute speeches that highlight the success stories of selected youth organizations in their respective advocacies. These will be short but impactful talks from youth leaders who come from different fields.

Participate in Workshops. Ignite your passion for health and well-being by participating in interactive and carefully designed workshops! It will be a good learning experience!

Speak your mind during Plenary Talks. You won’t just meet experts -- you’ll be encouraged to ask them curious things. We’ve invited speakers from the field of health, youth empowerment, and development, and other relevant issues for the youth.

Finally, one of the major activities in the event is the culmination of the Ideas Positive Run 9. During the Grand Finals, five out of the 14 youth teams will present their projects and outcomes. [Want to cast your bets now? Then read more about the teams here!]. The winners will be awarded during the IYD celebration.
